Keep Halloween Safe

Halloween Traffic Safety Tips to Protect Trick-or-Treaters, Families, and Communities

Halloween is a time for costumes, candy, and neighborhood celebrations. Soon, streets across the country will be filled with little ghosts, goblins, superheroes, and families enjoying one of the most exciting nights of the year.

But as children head out to trick-or-treat, NovoaGlobal^® reminds everyone that traffic safety should be part of every Halloween celebration.

With more pedestrians walking through neighborhoods, crossing intersections, and traveling along residential streets, drivers need to be especially cautious. Children can be unpredictable, and costumes, darkness, and excitement can make it more difficult for motorists to see them.

At NovoaGlobal, we believe that protecting pedestrians, children, and families is a responsibility we all share.

Creating Safer Communities Through Innovative Technology

For more than 16 years, NovoaGlobal has partnered with municipalities and law enforcement agencies nationwide to provide advanced photo enforcement technology and comprehensive traffic safety solutions.

Our mission is simple: Creating Safer Communities.

NovoaGlobal specializes in innovative traffic safety solutions designed to help communities address dangerous driving behavior, encourage compliance with traffic laws, and protect vulnerable road users.

Our advanced enforcement technology solutions include:

• School Zone Speed Enforcement: Helping protect students, families, and pedestrians by encouraging drivers to obey posted speed limits in school zones.
• Speed Enforcement: Addressing speeding violations along high-risk roadways, residential corridors, and designated safety zones.
• Red-Light Photo Enforcement: Helping reduce dangerous red-light running at intersections where motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists share the road.
• Stop Sign Enforcement: Identifying failure-to-stop violations and encouraging safer driving at intersections.
• Railroad Crossing Enforcement: Helping discourage dangerous driving behavior at highway-rail grade crossings.

Through advanced technology, reliable violation documentation, and comprehensive program support, NovoaGlobal helps law enforcement agencies strengthen their traffic safety efforts.

While our technology operates throughout the year, Halloween is an important reminder that safer streets begin with responsible driving and community awareness.

Halloween Safety Tips for Drivers

NHTSA recommends, with children and families walking through neighborhoods, drivers should take extra precautions to help prevent accidents.

Slow Down

Reduce your speed in residential neighborhoods and areas where children are likely to be trick-or-treating. Give yourself additional time to react to unexpected pedestrian movements.

Stay Alert

Avoid distractions, including mobile phones. Children may unexpectedly enter the roadway or step out from between parked vehicles.

Watch for Dark Costumes

Many Halloween costumes are difficult to see at dusk or after dark. Pay extra attention near sidewalks, driveways, intersections, and parked cars.

Obey Traffic Signals and Stop Signs

Come to a complete stop at stop signs and red lights. Always check for pedestrians before proceeding through intersections or making turns.

Yield to Pedestrians

Watch carefully for children crossing streets and give pedestrians the right of way as required, especially at marked crosswalks and intersections.

Halloween Safety Tips for Parents and Trick-or-Treaters

Drivers aren’t the only ones who can help make Halloween safer. Parents and pedestrians can take simple steps to improve visibility and reduce risks.

Be Visible

Add reflective tape to costumes and candy bags. Carry flashlights or glow sticks to help drivers see children after dark.

Use Sidewalks

Walk on sidewalks whenever possible. If sidewalks aren’t available, walk facing oncoming traffic and stay as far from moving vehicles as safely possible.

Cross at Safe Locations

Use crosswalks, street corners, and well-lit intersections. Look left, right, and left again before crossing, and continue watching for turning vehicles.

Stay Together

Young children should always be accompanied by a responsible adult. Encourage older children to travel in groups and follow an agreed-upon route.

Choose Safe Costumes

Make sure costumes fit properly and don’t obstruct vision or create tripping hazards. Consider face paint instead of masks that limit visibility.

Safer Driving Makes a Difference Every Day

Halloween may bring additional pedestrian activity, but the importance of safe driving extends throughout the year.

Every day, children walk to school, families cross busy intersections, cyclists travel along community roadways, and motorists navigate areas where traffic violations can create serious safety risks.

NovoaGlobal’s photo enforcement technology provides municipalities and law enforcement agencies with tools to identify and document violations and encourage safer driving behavior.

By helping communities address speeding, red-light running, failure-to-stop violations, and unsafe railroad crossings, NovoaGlobal supports traffic safety programs focused on protecting lives and reducing preventable crashes.

Our goal isn’t simply to document violations. It’s to encourage safer driving habits that help protect the people who live, work, and travel in the communities we serve.

Let’s Make Halloween Safe for Everyone!

Whether you’re driving through a neighborhood, accompanying children trick-or-treating, or welcoming families to your doorstep, a little extra attention can make a meaningful difference.

Slow down. Stay alert. Watch for pedestrians. Obey traffic laws.

From everyone at NovoaGlobal®, we wish you and your family a Happy and Safe Halloween!
